1. It was not very hard to mix the color swatches, I just had to keep testing and playing with the colors until I reached to right shade to it.
2. I made the browns by mixing different complementary colors such as purple and yellow, blue and orange, green and red, ext. 3. I picked to paint a road in the sunset with trees shadowed. I picked this because I really enjoy mixing colors to create a sunset sky, which was really fun to do. I also wanted to do the trees because I have never done that before will painting, so I wanted to learn how and it was a fun new style of painting for me which should help me in my future paintings. The spheres warm up was the most helpful towards me during this unit. This is because in this warm up I learned how to balance all the values in spheres to keep them looking realistic. Before we did this warm up I had no idea how to create values on a circle to make it look like a sphere. Now that I do know this, I can apply this knowledge towards all the pieces I create in the future. Composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject. Value is the lightness or darkness in the tone of colors.
I picked Suzanne Moxhay as my inspired artist. She lives and works in London and graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art at The Royal Academy Schools. She has her own site were she keeps all her work, info, and news about her at (http://www.suzannemoxhay.com). The realism and imagination Moxhay has in her art is amazing to me. The post apocalyptic art she has is very fiction, but the realism brings that picture to life and creates a story. Every piece she has is not only a very talented work of art, but it tells a story through it and gives a strong emotional reaction. The amount of detail in her work is what really gives it life, every inch is completely thought out and carefully designed. What I found very interesting is that Moxhay creates a live-action set in her studio that is derived from early filmmaking. She uses backdrops painted on sheets of glass and builds up her image using source material. She photographs this set, then digitally edits and manipulates the images to bring the picture into what she sees in order to broaden the story that comes from the piece. This technique is very creative and clever which is a very cool way to create a story through your imagination. |
